I
went to stay at a friend's last Monday who lives on the MI borderline...very close to Indiana. One of my friends, who owns a 5th wheel...and is now not working came with me. (You'll see why I tell you this) Most of the places there at at least 2 acres...many are at least 5 and many are MUCH more!!!! It is an agricultural area....My friend has chickens, ducks, rabbits, and a horse!!!
We had a great time.....stayed in my friend's 25ft motor home. Dog's had 2 big xpens put together as a back yard. We, the dogs, my friend,Carolyn, and I got to see many different kinds of chickens, some beautiful black ducks, rabbits, a horse, and other pugs!
On Wednesday, Lefty's birthday, we (all the two legged ones) all piled in the car and went to Shipshewanna (the Amish Flea market in Indiana). I was the last out of the motorhome .....until my friend realized that she had forgotten to bring water. Since she had her own 5th wheel...I wasn't worried about her not closing the door properly!!!!!!! Didn't even think about it as we had discussed it!
We left at 11...and came home about 5....to find the motorhome door wide open.......and Isis and Solo in the x pen in front of it!!! NO LEFTY or KELEV!!! I was hysterical!!!! Char, my friend that owns the place....called a friend and they spoke to people as they went looking! My friend who'd last been in the motorhome was freaked too...and took off in my van to look! I kept yelling and yelling! I ran in the middle of this farm road that everyone speeds down......and flagged speeding cars to ask them to slow down and look for my babies!!! I called my friend, Connie, sobbing so hard it was hard to understand me!!!
It seemed like forever......but maybe 15-20 minutes...and Kelev was delivered to me
in
my van by Carolyn ....He was wet, but okay! I freaked out that he had fallen in some place and Lefty had drowned!!!! Dried him off...(later learned that the person that found him had hosed him down cuz he seemed to be really hot!) At least a half hour later....I hear a call across the meadows
.....that Lefty had been found!!! I couldnt' believe my luck! I went sobbing toward the voice! There was someone on the corner about 1/3 mile away...... No Lefty...but a hug!!!! He had been found in the woods by a young girl that had taken off to look for him
bareback on her horse. He was
brought on the horse...to another neighbor in a VW beetle...who brought him to me!
This is farm land...lots of animals, fields and woods and cars thatdrive down the roads at at least 60!!!! I am so fortunate to have themall back with me!!!!!
It was a horrendous experience....one I hope no one else ever has to
gothrough!!! I knew that all 4 dog had been running free. Don't know for how long. Don't know who found Isis and Solo and put them in a safe fenced in area (there was a full water dish in it from the AM). Don't know where Kelev had been but he did go up on someone's porch who took care of him before trying to find where he belonged... (I just found out yesterday that it was this same girl that had found and doused Kelev! She
jumped on her horse as soon as she heard that Lefty was still out there! Bless her heart!)...and Lefty was found in the middle of a wooded area....maybe coming in a bit due to hearing his name being called by tons of people. Do know that Lefty was deep in the wooded area and would not have been found without that girl on the horse!!!! Do know that Kelev had gone almost a mile...and that Lefty had gone a mile or more. Do know that NONE of my dogs are streetsmart...and while there USUALLY isn't a lot of traffic on the side street they went on...there IS a lot of traffic in front of my friend'shouse.
Do know how very lucky I am to have them all with me!!!!
Lefty seems fine!!!! Didn't eat anything poisonous (he's always eating grass etc!) Spent his birthday wondering around ....got a horse backride...and a ride in a new VW Beetle!
I have a few more gray hairs.....and took hours and a few drinks to calm down
